Iran’s bank of rapidly spinning centrifuges has produced stockpile of low-enriched uranium, able to fuel nuclear reactors, but able also to fuel nuclear weapons if further enriched by re-circulating it through the centrifuges. The re-circulation raises the concentration of the uranium isotope u-235, which fissions in nuclear weapons such as the one dropped on Hiroshima. |

A body was set up in the 90’s called the Physical Research Institute (PHRC) whose main purpose was to produce a nuclear bomb for Iran. The PHRC was responsible for planning and producing the bomb, as well as procuring components, materials and systems for the project. Another objective of the organization, parallel to producing the bomb but secondary to it, was building defense capabilities to protect Iran from a nuclear attack. |
